As a matter of interest I thought I would google Zack Electronics San Francisco and found your website. I would like to tell you how important Zack Electronics was to my best friend P.D. Saxe, and myself. I was born in 1942 and P.D. In 1945. Some people called us the “mad Scientists”, as we were always building something involving electronics. I have a great picture of P.D. and I taken in 1956, working on one of our projects.
I began using vacuum tubes to build short wave receivers and then transistors. I would build transistor radios for the kids in school and charge only for the parts. Perhaps not a good business model but I loved to do it. When I was 15 I became a radio amateur (WA6FCO), attended Lux Lab at Poly High in San Francisco (the most advanced electronics course in public high schools in The United States).
Zack electronics was so important to P.D. and I. We knew the salesmen, and our favorite was a very nice man named Homer. We met the owner Mr. Zachariah, and he was always very nice to us. Zack Electronics had all the latest components, electronics books and magazines.
P.D. and I ended up becoming electronics engineers. The importance of Zack Electronics cannot be understated in our career decisions. We both had a passion for electronics and Zack's helped so much towards our career goals.
When I began working in electronics, Zack's was an important supplier while I was at Secode, Dalmo Victor and Ampex. Today the world is so different. I do not see the opportunities and interest in electronics that existed when I was a child. The world is very different but I am so glad to see the name Zack Electronics still is in business.
I still have several projects I built from components from Zack's, as well as the four International Rectifier B2M Solar Cells I bought for a transistor radio project in 1958. The cells still work by the way.
Thank you for great memories and helping me in my career, Zack Electronics.
